In January 2021 Barwood Land entered into a promotion agreement in relation to land parcels totalling c 135 acres at Rushwick, just to the west of Worcester. The land wraps around the south and west of Rushwick village, close to the A4440 Worcester Southern Bypass.
The land is being promoted as the majority part of one of the three emerging strategic development allocations within the emerging South Worcestershire Development Plan Review. The three strategic allocations are a key part of the South Worcestershire strategy for meeting housing need for the next 10 – 15 years.
This site allocation will provide approximately 1,000 homes, 5 hectares of employment land, local centre, a new primary school, safeguarded land for a new rail station and car park, expanded sports pitch provision, new allotments and 40% green infrastructure across the site. Barwood Land are working closely with the County Council who are seeking to deliver the development of the rail station on land within the control of Barwood Land.
The SWDPR was submitted to the Secretary of state in September 2023. The current timetable for the Examination of that Plan Review suggests the Adoption of the new SWDPR Plan in Summer 2025. Sales of development parcels to housebuilders are anticipated by 2027.
